January 1816

She married Robert Clay, a widower at St. George's Hanover Square in January 1816. By the time of her marriage to Robert Clay she had added Godolphin to her name to give Charlotte Godolphin Cobbe.   Robert was a Surveyor and possibly a builder.   As far as is known, they had only one child, a son, Robert Richard Clay, Surgeon, who founded the three generation country Medical Practice in Fovant, Wilts. Her death certificate gives her age at death as 80 years. However the above dates would indicate an age nearer to some 75 years.

The history of the Clay families and their descendents, much of it dedicated to, and quite distinguished in, public, academic, ecclesiastic and military service is covered elsewhere on this web site.

Charlotte and Robert would be proud of all their descendents including, Joseph & Eloise , the very young grandchildren of the writer and their descendent, his distinguished wife.
